Nettle (Urtica dioica)often known as common nettle, stinging nettle (although not all plants of this species sting) or nettle leaf, or just a nettle or stinger, is a herbaceous perennial flowering plant in the family Urticaceae. The plant has a long history of use as a source for traditional medicine, food, tea, and textile raw material in ancient societies.

Nettle has been used in many ways to affect the skin. It has been used in salves and ointments for burns and wounds. The stinging hairs of the plant will cause pain and itching. However, the discomfort can be cured with the juice of the plant. The astringent properties of nettles have also been useful in skin treatment products.

Suggested Cosmetic Uses:

Nettle extract can be used in astringents, toners, fresheners, lotions, moisturizers, creams, and skin enhancing products. It can also be added to shampoos, conditioners, and bath care products.

Standard Usage Level: 1 - 10% in skin and hair care products. Can be used up to 100%.

In general, it is up to the company that is selling the product to the final consumer to determine the anticipated shelf life of the product.

Currently, the FDA does not generally require expiration dates on cosmetics or skincare products.
Consider being conservative about expiration time frames and encouraging the consumer to use up the product while it is fresh (4-8 months) or discard it after the time frame has passed.

It is the responsibility of the final retailer to conduct appropriate research and development on the use and safety of each item they offer for sale before retailing this item to the final consumer.
