Description Ingredients & Technical Information

Cellulose Thickener, also known as cellulose gum, is used as an emulsifier, thickener, suspending agent, etc., used in cosmetics. It’s also added to hair shampoos, toothpastes and liquid soaps, to generate their characteristic thick consistency and can be employed as a mild glue which can be washed away with water.

Cellulose is commonly referred to as Methylcellulose. The use of these two words is not clear to most people and the words are often interchanged.

So, here goes the explanation, hoping this is not to technical.

Cellulose is a complex carbohydrate that forms the main constituent of the cell wall in most plants and is important in the manufacture of numerous products, while methylcellulose is more of a description of a chemical reaction or process that occurs (organic chemistry) when cellulose (a white powdery substance), reacts with water (the chemical reaction or methylation of cellulose), which results from swelling with water to form a gel.

Methylation is a vital metabolic process that happens in every cell and every organ of our body. Life would simply not exist without it. It takes place more than a billion times per second in the human body.

Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose is generally the synthetic version of cellulose.

Cosmetic Use: Use this product in creams, lotions, soaps, lip balms and other formulations.

Our Cellulose Thickener is naturally sourced.
