Calcium carbonate is a chemical compound with the chemical formula CaCO3. It is a common substance found as rock in all parts of the world, and is the main component of shells of marine organisms, snails, and eggshells. This is an exfoliant with absorbent properties, sometimes used to make cosmetics whiter. It is also used as a filler in deodorants. Eggshells are made of 95% Calcium Carbonate.
Calcium Carbonate is not an irritant or an allergen.
Cosmetics Uses: Calcium Carbonate is excellent in personal care product applications including toothpastes, creams and lotions, cosmetics, and powders. In makeup , it is used as a pigment, pigment extender and prolonger. It can also be used as a whitener and oil absorber.
Since Calcium Carbonate absorbs moisture it is often added to face powders to increase the ability of the makeup to absorb moisture and makes a great absorber in foundations, primers and finishing powders.
Recommended usage: 2-5% of the formula to start.
