Elderflower (Sambucus nigra). Sambucus is a genus of flowering plants in the family Adoxaceae. The various species are commonly referred to as elder, elderflower or elderberry.

Cosmetic Uses:Elderflower, or Sambucus nigra, has been used in cosmetics since ancient Egypt times and is popular in the cosmetic industry for its anti-inflammatory and anti-wrinkle properties. Elderflower has many properties that can benefit the skin and hair, including:

Soothing

Elderflower's cooling properties can help reduce redness and irritation, while its calming properties can nourish and revitalize dry, sensitive, or depleted skin.

Protecting

Elderflower's antioxidants and bioflavonoids can help protect skin from UV radiation and other environmental stressors, and prevent free radical damage that can cause signs of aging.

Detoxifying

Elderflower's natural detoxifying properties can help prevent skin irritations and breakouts. Its antimicrobial and antifungal compounds can also help balance excess oils and keep skin healthy and clear.

Boosting circulation

Elderflower is rich in vitamins A, B, C, and E, which can help reduce dullness and the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, age spots, and hyperpigmentation.is very rich in mucilages, polysaccharides (sugars) and tannins. It will provide natural moisturizing and soothing properties. Skin preparations such as gels, facial moisturizers, serums, lotions, creams and balms, for sensitive, irritated, dry, flaky and itchy skin. Shelf Life

Skincare is food for the skin.

The two goals of fresh and natural, mean a natural product should be fresh and a fresh product should be natural. The normal anticipated shelf life of a natural product is about 1 year from the date of purchase from the manufacturer. The actual shelf life of the product may be longer or shorter depending on how the product is altered, changed, stored, packaged and handled before sale to the final consumer. If ingredients are added to our bases and stock products, you’ll want to consider if they will shorten or change the shelf life and stability of the product.

In general, it is up to the company that is selling to the final consumer to determine the anticipated shelf life of the product. Currently the FDA does not require expiration dates on cosmetics or skincare products. Consider being conservative about expiration time frames and encouraging the consumer to use up the product while it is fresh (3-6 months) or discard it after the time frame has pasted.

It is the responsibility of the customer to conduct appropriate research and development on the use and safety of each item they order before retailing this item to the final consumer.
